There are three stages of the Karnataka Civil Judge Exam:

Preliminary Exam – the screening test – MCQ Based – Language: English
Mains Exam – Written / Subjective Based – Offline
Interview – Viva Voce

The Preliminary Exam is conducted online where the candidates are screened and the selected candidates appear for the Mains Exam, which is written in nature. Once the candidate qualifies for the written exam, becomes eligible for the Viva Voce.

Syllabus for Karnataka Civil Judge Exam:

A. Preliminary Exam:

Paper A	Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 Negotiable Instruments Act, 1981 Transfer of Property Act, 1882 Indian Contract Act, 1872 Specific Relief Act, 1963 Indian Constitution Karnataka Rent Act, 1999
Paper B	Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 Indian Penal Code, 1860 Indian Evidence Act, 1872
Paper C	General Knowledge – Test of reasoning and mental ability

B. Mains Exam:

Paper 1	Translation Paper	Depositions Judgments Documents	100 Marks
Paper 2	Law Paper I	Code of Civil Procedure, 1908 Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973 The Indian Evidence Act, 1872 Principles of Pleading and the Constitution of India	100 Marks
Paper 3	Law Paper II	Framing of Issues and Writing of Judgements in Civil Cases	100 Marks
Paper 4	Law Paper III	Framing of Charges & Writing of judgements in Civil Cases	100 Marks

Exam Pattern & Marks Distribution:

A. Preliminary Exam:

Duration: 2 Hours
Medium: English
Type: Written

B. Mains Exam:
No. of Paper: 4
Total Marks: 400
Duration: 3 Hours for each
Medium: Hindi / English
Type: Subjective

C. Viva Voce:
The Viva Voce is the final stage where the candidate appears for an interview. The Viva Voce carries 100 marks.

D. Computer Test:
The knowledge of computers shall carry 25 marks and such marks secured by the candidate shall be considered for ascertaining the suitability and computer knowledge of the candidates and shall not be aggregated to the total marks obtained in the main written examination and Viva Voce.

Eligibility:

A candidate-

Must be a citizen of India
Holder of a Law degree recognized from a Law University established by Law in India
Eligible to practice as an Advocate in India

Age Limit:

The age of the candidates must be less than or equal to 35 years.
the candidates of the SC and ST Category will get 3 years of relaxation at their upper age.
